In the top left corner is the Add button to subscribe to podcasts. Below that, you have a list of your subscriptions. The very first row is the Selected Playlist followed by your subscriptions in alphabetical order. In the footer of the subscriptions table is the file size label. Tap it to see your active and completed downloads. Finally, the bottom toolbar contains the refresh button on the left and the settings button on the right.
Tap the Add button to make the podcast directory appear. The podcast directory in Podcaster 4 pops up from the bottom and features tabs across the bottom. The tabs include Most Popular, Search, Providers, Categories and Suggested. The navigation bar at the top contains a Done button to hide the podcast directory and an Import button. The import section is how you subscribe to Podcasts that are not in our directory by entering the feed url, opml url or import from iPod app. We also feature similar podcasts on the search details page,as well as,hosts (When available).
To subscribe, simply browse or search the directory until you find a Podcast that interests you, then tap the subscribe button in the top-right corner. Repeat this step until you have subscribed to all your favorites. Finally, tap the Done button to return to your subscription list. The podcasts will be listed.
The recommended way to listen to your podcasts is to use a playlist. Tap the playlist to show all episodes, then tap the play button. Playlists are order by newest, but you can reverse the order or set a custom order. You can also filter by audio, video or both.
Tap the title of the Playlist in the Navigation Bar to choose a different playlist or create a custom playlist.
An alternative way to listen is to select a podcast from your subscription list, then choose an episode and tap play. After the episode is finished, it will continue to the next episode.
New for Podcaster 4 is Hosts. You can view hosts for a podcast and add hosts if not available. Hosts will also appear in the show notes. Tappinga host will reveal information about that host including twitter link and other podcasts.
Podcaster 4 analyzes each podcast and determines the best time to automatically refresh. As each podcast refreshes, new episodes are added to the download queue. When the refresh completes, downloading will begin.
You can also tap the refresh button to refresh all your subscriptions at any time. To refresh an individual podcast, just select it from your subscription list and tap the refresh button.
You can see active and complete downloads by tapping the Disk Size Button in the footer of your subscription list. Active downloads are displayed at the top and below them are your completed downloads. Complete downloads will eventually be deleted automatically, but you can free up space at any time by swiping each episode you want to delete. You can also delete all the downloads from the application by tapping the purge downloads button. Please note, the purge downloads button only appears when you have no active downloads.
The now playing screen contains all the controls to start/stop playback, as well as, fast forward and rewind and skip commercial. You can use gestures to pause/play (double tap) or to skip commercial (swipe right or left). You can also use the lock screen remote control or headphone remote control. Holding the fast forward or rewind buttons will begin to scrub at a 6x rate. Tapping the fast forward and rewind button will skip to next or previous tracks. You can also use double-tap-hold or triple-tap-hold on the headphones remote to fast forward and rewind.
The Now Playing screen also features the continue playback button, that can stop playback after 1 episode or play all episodes in the list. A variable rate playback button that can play episodes at .4x to 2x playback speed. The show notes are on the flip side of the now playing screen. The show notes are displayed within a browser so you can easily navigate links and perform actions like email, post to Twitter, Instapaper, and more.
